Violet’s obituary was written by her as part of a class on obituary writing taught by her identical twin sister, Viola.
Violet passed peacefully at her home in Livermore, California to her eternal home. She was born February 7, 1939, the younger of identical twins, to Nancy Luetta Dragoo and John Ewing Carr. She entered this world in a tent work camp near Buckeye, Maricopa County, Arizona. The youngest of ten, she was delivered by her Aunt Rosie Carr Scurlock, a midwife. The odds were against her survival, but she beat the statistics and lived a long and productive life.
Her parents relocated the family to El Nido, Red Top, then to Chowchilla, California, where they worked in the agricultural community. Violet grew up in Chowchilla, attended school from elementary through high school, and graduated with honors. Her first job was with Bank of America. After twenty years, she switched to administration positions in environmental engineering and ended her career with a brief return to the financial sector.
She was married to William Jack Moore, Jr. from 1959 to 2002. A military wife, she relocated several times before moving to his home state of Louisiana in 1962 after his discharge. A few years later, they returned to California, bought a home in Irvine, then sold it and returned to Louisiana in 1974. In 2002 Violet retired and moved to California alone where she settled in the Bay Area Tri-Valley.
Violet was a church volunteer from a teen, from Sunday School teacher to hospital visitation coordinator. During retirement, she expanded her community efforts to a senior center and joined California Writers Club Tri-Valley Branch. There, she served as vice president, president, webmaster, newsletter editor, and in other roles. She received the Jack London Award for volunteerism in 2012. A perpetual college student on campus and later online, she attended career-oriented classes. She switched to writing classes, but not until after she had published two inspirational books.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Dragoo and John Ewing Carr; siblings Annie Carr, Elmer Ewing Carr, Clyde Austin Carr, William Thomas Carr, Frank Lee Carr, Addie Carr Duncan, Mary Carr Rice Irvin, and Nadine Carr Tripp. She is survived by her twin, Viola Carr Wilson Parsons, four generations of nieces and nephews, and innumerable cousins proved from DNA.
Her memorial is located at Ridge Haven in Tennessee.
Violet has been a beloved friend of the Boys Ranch in Louisiana for many years.

To those of us who knew your smile, the world’s a colder place.
There’s one less writer and one less friend, and one more empty space.
Despite our sadness and our tears, we must remember this:
If there was not so much to love, there wouldn’t be so much to miss.
You taught us much by being you, that helps us to go on,
So even though a part is lost, your faithful spirit is not gone.
Instead of despairing of our loss, let’s instead remember this:
Your kindness and your courage, your strength and thoughtfulness.
For friendship and integrity, and honor will remain,
To help us hold your memory, and ease some of the pain.
Though some may say that you are gone, I don’t believe that’s true,
There’s something now in each of us, that once was part of you.
