Doris Louise Grimes of Mesa, Arizona passed away at her home on November 5, 2023. She was 97.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings; the love of her life, James Robert (“Bob”) Grimes; her daughter Cynthia Louise Miller; her grandson John Michael Davis, and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by two daughters, Michele Davis and Victoria Daniels, a step-son David Jenkins, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Doris was born in Colliers, West Virginia to Christy and Victoria Freshwater. As a young adult, she moved to San Francisco, California and later became a longtime resident of Fresno, California. Doris and Bob were married in Monterrey, California in 1962. The two were amateur golfers, winning the 1968 and 1971 Guys and Dolls Golf Tournament at Airways Golf Course in Fresno, California. While living in Fresno, Doris volunteered at Saint Agnes Hospital. She was a talented interior decorator, seamstress, and craftswoman. In her later years, she volunteered at Mesa Senior Center East in Mesa, Arizona.
